Police seize over 10 tons of smuggled medicine in S. Afghanistan

KABUL, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have confiscated and destroyed more than 10,500 kg of smuggled medicines in Afghanistan's southern Helmand province, the provincial police office said on Friday.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out by security teams in Garmsir district of the province. The seized medicines, collected over a six-week period, were destroyed in the presence of a supervisory committee.

The action forms part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal trade and smuggling of pharmaceuticals in the province. Authorities say such operations will continue to prevent the distribution of unregulated medicines in local markets.
