ALMATY, April 6 (Xinhua) -- Grain exports from Kazakhstan have gone down as a sharp appreciation of the national currency, the tenge, has widened the gap between domestic and export prices, Yevgeny Karabanov, head of analytics at the Kazakh Grain Union, said on Monday via Telegram.
Low margins are also limiting price growth for grains and oilseeds in the domestic market, and a prolonged slump could lead to excess carryover stocks, putting further downward pressure on prices, he said.
Karabanov kept the export forecast for wheat, wheat flour and feed flour, in grain equivalent, at 13 million metric tons for the September 2025 -- August 2026 marketing year, saying the union will continue to monitor exports, according to an Interfax-Kazakhstan report on Monday.
In early March, the Kazakh Grain Union said market activity remained subdued, partly due to new tax requirements.
