BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed lower Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.97 percent, at 3,361.44 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.53 percent lower at 13,328.06 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices came in at 818.9 billion yuan (129.16 billion U.S. dollars), down from 823 billion yuan on the previous trading day.
Stocks related to tourism, electricity, and education led the gains, while those related to coal, COVID-19 treatment, and Baijiu (a type of Chinese liquor) led the losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.08 percent to close at 2,908.94 points.
