BERLIN, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- German shares were off to a good start on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index rising 114.71 points, or 0.74 percent, opening at 15,463.24 points.
The biggest winner among Germany's 40 largest listed companies was building materials company HeidelbergCement, increasing by 1.65 percent, followed by automotive supplier Continental with 1.32 percent and plastic specialist Covestro with 1.28 percent.
Shares of Deutsche Post fell by 2.25 percent. The German mail and logistics company was the biggest loser at the start of trading on Wednesday.
Real earnings in Germany in the second quarter increased 3 percent year-on-year, the Federal Statistical Office announced on Wednesday.
The yield on German ten-year bonds increased 0.0180 percentage points to minus 0.3095 percent and the euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.1728 U.S. dollars, increasing by 0.01 percent on Wednesday morning.
