BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally rose to 10,512,093 on Thursday, as 16,946 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, the latest data from the federal health ministry showed.

According to the data, the death toll mounted to 151,727 as 198 COVID-19 patients died since Wednesday morning.

There are still 213,603 active cases in the country, while 10,146,763 people have been discharged so far from hospitals after medical treatment.

ULAN BATOR -- Ten more COVID-19 cases were recorded in Mongolia in the past 24 hours, bringing the national caseload to 1,479, the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Thursday.

"A total of 15,899 tests for COVID-19 were conducted across the country yesterday and 10 of them were positive," said Amarjargal Ambaselmaa, head of the NCCD's Surveillance Department, at a press conference.

BEIJING -- An international expert team of the World Health Organization (WHO) arrived in China's Wuhan on Thursday.

The team for the origin-tracing of the novel coronavirus will conduct joint research with Chinese scientists.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the emergency use of Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE's COVID-19 vaccine, FDA head Enrique Domingo said on Thursday.

"Based on the totality of evidence available to date, including data from adequate and well-known controlled trials, it is reasonable to believe that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine may be effective to prevent, diagnose, or treat COVID-19," Domingo said at an online briefing.

BEIJING -- Thirty-six COVID-19 patients were newly discharged from hospitals after recovery on the Chinese mainland Wednesday, the National Health Commission said in a daily report Thursday.

There were 885 confirmed cases still being treated, including 24 in severe conditions, the report showed.
