Chavez raises food costs in Venezuela

Venezuela's President Chavez has told his people they will see sharp rises in some dairy food staples this year.

Pasteurized milk prices have already been raised 30% while some cheese prices have gone up 23%.

Venezuela has seen many shortages of basic goods this year, worsened by the devaluation of the Bolivar by as much as 50%.

The government controls the prices of more than 100 basic food goods, and has already raised the prices of other non-dairy products by as much as 35%.

Inflation in Venezuela is very high and reached 25% last year.
