Kyrgyzstan News.Net Monday 12th January, 2009
West Bank protesters have gathered in the town of Ramallah, to rally against Israel's continued offensive in Gaza.
They have been flocking to support Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza.
Demonstrations have become a daily occurrence across the West Bank since the Israeli assault began more than two weeks ago.
Protestors have accused the government of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of being ineffective in helping the Palestinians of Gaza.
Palestinian doctors and nurses have joined marches in central Ramallah to make people aware of mounting casualties.
Protesters have been holding up pictures of defenseless women and children whose houses have been shelled.
So far the protests have been peaceful, with the security forces of the Palestinian Authority out in force
Green flags that symbolize Hamas have been banned by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, a well-known moderate who has previously been in negotiations with Israel.
Many Palestinians in the West Bank have long expressed anger at the Abbas government, accusing it of corruption and collaboration with Israel.
