World Federation of Trade Unions supports Games
Kyrgyzstan News.Net Tuesday 13th May, 2008 (IANS)
Beijing, May 13 (Xinhua) Athens: The Athens-based World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) has hailed the efforts made by the Chinese people in trying to stage successful and harmonious Olympic Games. According to a union statement, the WFTU condemned the attempts to politicise the Olympics and opposed those actions to impede and jeopardise the Games.
The WFTU appealed to the working class of the world to be united and supportive to the Beijing Games. The WFTU has about 65 million members in 80 countries. Since ancient times, the Olympic games have been spreading the message of friendship, unity and peace throughout the world. They are not only a competition but a grand gathering of all the people, especially the younger generation, said the statement.
